Tachometer
Overview

Overview of the Tachometer

A tachometer is an RPM meter that shows engine rotational speed in revolutions per minute so operators can stay in a safe, efficient band. An electronic tachometer uses sensor or alternator pulses for a live RPM reading. Compared with a mechanical drive, it has fewer moving parts, lower wear, and simpler integration with 12 V / 24 V vehicle electrics. An electronic tachometer with hourmeter also records total engine run time for service intervals. A programmable tachometer lets pulses and accuracy be set in the field for different engines. A digital tachometer with LCD can show RPM and hours in numeric form; pointer types keep a classic analogue sweep.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

An electronic tachometer is an RPM meter that measures engine speed from sensor or alternator signals. Indication Instruments (Veethree) builds pointer and digital tachometer units for automotive and off-highway engines.

It displays engine RPM and total operating hours on the same instrument, which supports service scheduling.

A programmable tachometer lets pulse count and accuracy be configured in the field so one hardware family can cover different engines and signal types.

A digital tachometer with LCD shows RPM (and often hours) as numbers. An analogue pointer tachometer uses a stepper-driven needle on a printed dial.

Common diameters are 80 mm, 85 mm, 100 mm, and 140 mm, with stud or spade terminals.
