Speedometer
Overview

Overview of the Speedometer

An electronic speedometer measures and displays vehicle speed from sensor pulses, typically in km/h or mph. It gives the driver a live speed reading with fewer moving parts than a cable-driven mechanical unit, so wear is lower and service life is longer. These gauges integrate with modern vehicle electrics and hold calibration in harsh automotive and off-highway conditions. An electronic speedometer with odometer tracks total distance. An electronic speedometer with trip meter adds a resettable journey reading. Programmable speedometer variants let pulses and accuracy be set in the field for different platforms.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

An electronic speedometer is a vehicle gauge that measures speed from electronic sensor signals and displays it in km/h or mph. Indication Instruments (Veethree) builds these as stepper-pointer and digital speedometer units.

A mechanical unit uses a cable and more moving parts. An electronic speedometer uses sensor pulses, so wear is lower and integration with 12 V / 24 V vehicle electrics is simpler.

It displays speed and accumulated distance on the same instrument.

A programmable speedometer lets pulses per unit distance and accuracy be configured in the field so one hardware family can cover multiple vehicle platforms.

Common diameters are 80 mm, 85 mm, 100 mm, and 140 mm, with stud or spade terminals.
