Overview

Overview of the Speed Sensors (Hall Effect) - Non Contact Type

A non-contact speed sensor measures shaft or wheel speed without a driven spindle. Hall Effect magnetic sensing detects teeth or slots on a target wheel and produces a pulse train for the speedometer, tachometer, ECU, or controller. Compared with Indication Instruments Contact Type Speed Sensors, there is no mechanical shaft coupling-only an air gap. That reduces wear and allows a faster, cleaner signal in dirt and vibration. Working distance is specified up to 2.5 mm from the target wheel. Indication Instruments supplies these electronic speed sensors / RPM sensors:

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Non Contact Speed Sensors from Indication Instruments (Veethree) are Hall Effect magnetic sensors that read a ferromagnetic target wheel and output speed/RPM pulses without touching the rotating part.

Contact type units use a driven shaft (JISD 5602). Non-contact units sit at an air gap up to 2.5 mm from a target wheel and have a wider temperature range (-40°C to +125°C vs -25°C to +70°C on the contact family).

IP67 and IP69K compliant models.

Short-circuit, reverse-polarity, and over-voltage protection.

Indication Instruments Limited, under the Veethree brand.
